Washington State High School Photography Competition~ March update

We’re about 8 weeks from the deadline for entry to the Washington State High School Photography Competition.

If you did not receive the 2024 information, please e-mail me and I’ll send a copy, or visit www.kenmorecamera.com and click the purple WSHSPC logo that is located at the bottom of the homepage to find the link to the 2024 competition rules pdf.

When you see a photograph that you feel is a good candidate for the contest, ask the student to print a second copy and then place it in a file for later. This will eliminate the last-minute rush to collect student work to submit to the contest. If instructors or students have any questions about a photograph, or in which category it should be placed, please contact me and I will gladly help.

Now is a good time to begin reviewing past WSHSPC exhibits with your students.

I’d like to thank Jason Porter, Anna Allegro, and Yaoyao Lui of the Seattle Art Museum for their help with a very successful exhibit at the Seattle Asian Art Museum from December 3rd through January 21st. The space and exhibit looked wonderful and I’m so appreciative of the opportunity to showcase the work of high school students in such a prestigious gallery. We had a great Photography Instructor Roundtable on January 20th. We had a thorough discussion on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how some photography educators are addressing AI in the classroom. A big thanks to Kenmore Camera for providing the space, and Mike Wewer for co-hosting.

“This photo of two cowboys with their horses, was taken on the South Kaibab trail in the Grand Canyon National Park (South Rim). The cowboys use this trail to bring mules up and down the canyon to bring supplies to points along the trail. The whole hike I had been taking pictures and waiting for the perfect moment to capture the different cowboys on the trail and when we stopped for a break, I saw this perfect moment lined up and I took my photo.
